Do Solar Panels Work in Cold Climates?

You would think that solar panels would not be effective in cold climates but in reality it has nothing to do with the cold temperatures during winter.  Solar cells are not dependent on a heat oriented reaction therefore the energy captured will be the same on the coldest of winter days in comparison to the hottest of summer days.  The only issue will be the amount of sunlight received during the day which, of course, is shorter during the winter months.

Satellites are orbiting the Earth in extremely cold temperatures in space, yet we know that solar panels are very effective in powering them.  Obviously if solar panels will work in the coldness of space, they certainly will provide energy in any of Earth’s coldest climates as temperature is not a factor in their use.
